Learning through Play

Posted on: December 18th, 2015 by Renee No Comments

This month at WOW! Children’s Museum, we’re celebrating toys and games. Though this is a fun topic, it is also educational: children learn through play. As you play with your child at WOW! or at home, take advantage of learning opportunities by asking questions and prompting your child to ask questions too.

  • What is happening in your drawing?
  • What color are you using?
  • Which one of these things is the biggest?
  • How many did you find?
  • What happens when you push that button?

In our Build It WOW! Exhibit, construction toys teach children how to assemble and arrange things, which is a valuable experience in problem-solving and engineering. Children express themselves and practice everyday skills through dramatic role play, such as when they pretend to be a healthcare provider or patient in The Little Clinic Exhibit. For more ways to learn through play at home, please check out the toys and games in The Strong museum’s National Toy Hall of Fame.
